Set in the dunes of Islay, Queen of the Hebrides, The Machrie Hotel & Golf Links enjoys an enviable location, nestled beside seven miles of pristine beach in the Inner Hebrides.
Opened in late Summer 2018 after a complete renovation and expansion, The Machrie Hotel features 47 beautifully designed rooms, suites and lodges. Some with their own outdoor terraces and stunning views across the Links.
The hotel offers guests the perfect place to meet and relax including, 18, our impressive restaurant with panoramic views of the Links and PureGray, our spa.
Our Links course was originally designed in 1891 by Willie Campbell, and has now been fully modernised by D J Russell, former European Ryder Cup Vice Captain and PGA tour player.
The dramatic setting of Laggan Bay has few equals and the ever changing nature of the challenge offered by this acclaimed layout make The Machrie’s Links one to play.

Rooms
The Machrie is Islay’s newest hotel.
Whether on the ground or first floor, all our rooms have unobstructed views of the island’s peat plains, the Mull of Oa or the green of our links and the Atlantic Ocean.
New lodges have also been added onto the links. These offer more private accommodation only a minute’s walk from the main building.
Restaurant
Overlooking the 18th green of our famous Links course and the ocean beyond, 18 is our stunning restaurant & bar.
Located on the first floor of the hotel, the impressive restaurant has a vaulted glass ceiling and an outdoor terrace offering panoramic south westerly views over the Links and down to Laggan Bay. You can gaze over the crystal blue sea from our terrace. The perfect place to sit for dinner or to enjoy a sunset aperitif.
Golf
Golf has been played at The Machrie since 1891. Designed by Willie Campbell and more recently modernised by course architect DJ Russell. The Machrie combines the very best of a traditional, historic links course from a previous age, with a modern Links. The need for thought, imagination and creative shot-making has not changed throughout the years and carries as much of a premium over sheer power now, as it did then, in 1891.
